Medicare, finally!

At long last, we already have our Medicare card!

Well, not really the card yet. It's more of a paper receipt. But it does have a medicare number and our names on it, so it's as good as the real thing.

Lani and I have struggled in the past 2 years without this. We've spent so much ($15k out-of-pocket) during her pregnancy because we didn't have Medicare then - 457 visa holders from Philippines are not eligible and we were within the 1 year waiting period of our Health Insurance.

But since our PR application is already in process, we've been given the green light to enroll for benefits and that's exactly what we did. We got this last Monday at the Medicare Chatswood branch.

It wasn't a difficult process. You just have to secure an appointment (can't just walk in), complete the form (1 form for the entire family), bring your passports and photocopies, copy of the original visa grant letter, the bridging visa letter, and a proof of address (utility bill or tenancy agreement). It took just around 30 mins for a lady to enter our details into the system and print this receipt out. The actual cards will arrive in the mail in 3-5 weeks.
